The Nancy Lieberman Foundation

Nancy Lieberman

Women’s basketball legend Nancy Lieberman is committed to enriching her community and sport, and has identified opportunities that emphasize youth and education.  Guiding youngsters and helping the disadvantaged has always been a passion for Lieberman, and through this philosophy the Nancy Lieberman Foundation was born in 2009.  During the summer, Nancy hosts and coaches basketball clinics and camps for girls and boys in Dallas, Detroit, and Phoenix, hoping through positive guidance and helpful instruction to facilitate the success of the next generation of student athletes, on and off the court.

Through her foundation, Nancy helps provide a safe environment for children to play, as well as providing low-income students with greater opportunities to succeed in the classroom through the distribution of free computers to aspiring student leaders, and books to encourage students to read more.  For more information, please visit The Nancy Lieberman Foundation website.

“Never stop working, wanting or dreaming!”  ~Nancy Lieberman

On Nov. 5, 2009, Basketball Hall-of-Famer Nancy Lieberman added to her already illustrious career when she was hired as the Texas Legends' first head coach.  Lieberman, widely considered one of the most influential figures in women’s basketball, became the first female head coach to lead an NBA or NBA D-League team.  Nancy began coaching the Legends in November 2010.

Nancy Lieberman made history on July 24, 2008, by signing with the Detroit Shock of the WNBA, becoming the oldest player ever to play in the history of the league at the young age of 50.  This broke her previous record of 39 years old which Nancy established as a member of the Phoenix Mercury in 1997.  Her rise through the ranks of professional sports and her significant contributions to women’s basketball encompasses a rich and elaborate history.

Lieberman’s distinguished career is one of monumental strength and motivation in the pursuit of becoming one of the greatest women’s basketball players.  Her refusal to accept anything less than the best, her devotion to the sport, her relentless time and energy to the advancement of women playing professional basketball are a source of inspiration.  Her quest for excellence is brilliantly diversified as a Hall of Famer, two-time Olympian, three-time All-American, WNBA coach and GM, acclaimed broadcaster for ESPN/ABC/NBA TV, motivational speaker and esteemed writer and author.  Nancy Lieberman represents the epitome of triumph and serves as a true pioneer for women in sports.  In 2010 Nancy wrote her first business book “Playbook for Success,” by Wiley Publishing.

In addition to Nancy’s own work through her foundation, she is determined to give back more than she has received, and has supported and participated in fundraising for numerous national charities throughout the country.
